Fifth Floor Exhibition, Tate Liverpool (2009-10)

Exhibition / Collaboration with Ailie Rutherford & International Festival

‘In 2009 a ground-breaking exhibition transformed the top floor gallery at Tate Liverpool into a space for encounter and collaboration, imagination and invention, marking the end of Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture.

Using conversation as a starting point, Jessie Blindell and Ailie Rutherford worked collaboratively to create a programme of community-led events exploring different processes of social exchange, underpinned by ideas drawn from individuals and groups around the city.

The modular social space (designed by International Festival) was appropriated by each group differently according to how they chose to use the space. Ideas and exchanges also spread outside the gallery in the form of sound installations and a town crier performance on the docks.’

‘Life, Death & The Rest’ Festival

Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol (2017)

Collaborative printmaking and installation.

Working in response to the cemetery location and asking the question ‘What would you leave behind?’, alphabets were designed and hand-printed by the public and exchanged and arranged to form responses. These words and sentences formed the basis for ongoing conversations and exchanges relating to life, death and the rest, which were then installed in the Victorian era Spielman Centre at Arnos Vale.

The exhibition was part of the ‘Life, Death and the Rest’ festival which included talks, workshops and events aiming to encourage more open conversations about death and dying.
